Due to its characteristic appearance and delicate taste, the American donut has become a frequent guest at the Ukrainian Easter table. This pastry is easier to make than a panettone cupcake, and the donut dough is less whimsical than traditional Easter cakes. We share a recipe worth trying for Easter 2022.
Ingredients: milk (90 ml), sugar (100 g), dry yeast (2 teaspoons), 3 eggs, 1 orange, butter (100 g), flour (360 g), nuts (50 g), dried apricots (100 g) d), raisins (50 g), a pinch of salt and powdered sugar for powder.
Making donuts for Easter:
Squeeze 2 tablespoons orange. juice, and rub the skin with a fine grater.
Heat the milk to 40 degrees, add a teaspoon of sugar, dry yeast, stir and leave for 15 minutes.
Separate the yolks from two eggs, beat one egg completely, pour in the remaining sugar and beat until white.
Melt 40 grams of butter and let cool slightly.
Add the egg and sugar mixture, orange juice, orange peel, yeast mixture, oil and a pinch of salt to the sifted flour.
Knead the dough until it stops sticking to your hands. It will take about 10 minutes.
Grease a tall bowl with oil, place the dough in it, cover with a clean towel or cling film and leave in a warm place for 2 hours. During this time, it should double in size.
The nuts are steamed with boiling water for softness.
The finished donut dough is divided into three equal parts. When working with one, leave the rest under the film.
Roll out a piece of dough into a rectangle about 30 by 50 cm, grease it with soft butter, sprinkle with nuts and nuts.
Roll the dough into a roll, cut it into two parts, leaving about 4 cm undivided.
Rotate the screw-shaped strips in half around its axis: first one part and then the other. Transfer to a baking tray about 10 cm in diameter and let the future donuts rest in a warm place under a towel for another hour.
Place the cake in the preheated oven at 180 degrees for 10 minutes, then lower the temperature to 160 degrees and cook for another half hour.
Check the preparation of the donuts with a toothpick: if it is dry and clean, the cake is ready. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and give away to your family for Easter.
